Genuine hard to find piece of history. A cap badge in gilding metal for the Hood battalion, a division of the Royal Navy. Unfortunate loss of the lugs from the back. Could be repaired or displayed as is. Maker marked J R Gaunt. Depicts a chough and anchor from the crest of Admiral Hood (1724-1816) resting on top of a wreathed scroll. A scroll below inscribed with the word "steady" and a tablet inscribed "hood"
